My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: for they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.” – Proverbs 1:8-9

God has ordained the home to be our first, and most important, connection with this world. It is in the home that we should be given the greatest opportunity to experience the beauty of love, to enjoy the benefits of peace and safety, to experience the bounty of grace, to express the burdens of our heart, to expect the blessings of faith and support, to enhance our skills and talents, and to expand the horizon of our future. It is the place where we are meant to learn the principles of order, to practice proper submission to God-given authority, to be equipped to overcome obstacles and to endure the burdens of life. It is in the home that we are to be given the building blocks to live by faith, to love family and friends, to lend forgiveness, and to lead our feelings as we travel along our journey of life. However, the most important responsibility of the home is to present a beautiful picture of God’s love and provision for us and to present the truth that God desires to have a personal and intimate relationship with us. There is no other entity or organization on earth that has the greatest opportunity to impact us as much spiritually than the home. It is highly important and should be considered extremely valuable. In Jewish custom, there was no greater symbol to display one’s worth than to be adorned by someone with a garland around the head or a gold chain around the neck – that is exactly what the home is meant to accomplish. So, place a greater emphasis on your home and on your family today because what you learn there can be used to make you beautiful in the eyes of both God and man.
