The Patch Of Renewal

And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it” (Isaiah 58:11-14).

When we make the choice to pursue our own pleasures, when we decide to follow our own path, and when we fail to keep a guard on our lips, we become vulnerable to the enemy who is both willing and ready to take advantage of our mistakes and our moments of weakness. When we let down our guard, the enemy creeps into our heart and begins to tear down walls, destroy foundations, and wreak as much havoc in our life as possible. Sin always has consequences, but God is gracious to forgive and to cleanse those who will turn back to Him (1 John 1:9). When we make the choice to once again follow God’s direction, He then begins the work of leading us to repair the breach, to reestablish spiritual strongholds, to remove as much of the debris and rubble as possible, and to rebuild us into a beautiful picture of grace so that we can then impact a multitude of generations to come. It is when the patches are put in place and over the process of time that we are once again able to experience the peace, delight, confidence, and satisfaction that only God can provide.
